On Investing in a Laugh

Sometimes, if I know that a friend, or more often than not, my brother is going to be coming home soon, I will contort my body into some kind of ridiculous position and just hold it there, so that when he walks in, he is completely taken aback by the absurdity of what I am doing. And I’m not talking about “Look, Jeff just pulled into the garage, let me get into position.” I’m talking about, “Jeff could be home in thirty seconds, or he could be home in 2 hours, regardless, I’m holding this damn position.” Because you know what? For every extra second that I hold that position, it gets funnier and funnier. Imagine you are coming home from a long day at work, you walk into your apartment, flip on the light and there I am, with the goofiest looking smile you’ve ever seen, standing on one leg with the other tucked into my thigh. Both arms are rolled up into my sides, my torso is slightly tilted and I’ve blown air into my cheeks. I look like a giant monkey pretzel*, standing in the middle of your living room when the lights come on. Now, I explain to you that I’ve been standing in that awkward position for well over an hour because I thought it would be funny. Isn’t that funny! Oh. It’s creepy? I do this type of thing all the time and just laugh and laugh and laugh. (sigh)

What I’m getting at is that the more time that goes into a prank, the funnier it becomes. Like that one time we tied 500 hot dogs, each with its own string, to a friend’s tree. Or when we spent 6 hours toilet papering a house with 350 rolls of paper. The more invested you make yourself in a prank, the funnier. Remember that kids.

*My friend Clark made the giant monkey pretzel pose famous and, as far as I know, is its creator.

Am I the only one that thinks contorting your body is funny? ;)

This is hilarious…yes, I did totally LOL reading it. I can’t remember if you’re in Dallas or Austin…I’m guessing Austin. When can we hang out again in person. I need more humor in my life. :)

Not only is contorting your body funny, but making faces is hilarious. I am the product of a face-making family, and I know I’ve found a longtime friend if she/he “gets” face making as much as I do. My little sister and I used to stand across crowded rooms from each other pulling (and trying to hold) the slightest goofy faces to see if anyone else noticed. We’d usually melt into gut-wrenching giggles long before anyone did notice, but it was fun all the same. Needless to say, we usually didn’t make any friends at these events (who WERE those freaks laughing at each other from across the room?!!?). However, if she still lived in town, we’d still be at it. Face makers never change.

well if youre speaking of pranks..perhaps you remember young life camp circa 2001(?) when all of the girls and i stole every single pair of boxers from yalls cabin? Yes…even the gross dirty ones so we could be sure you guys wouldnt try to re-wear. HAHAHA i will never forget how hard we laughed when we knew NONE of yall were wearing undies. Then we blamed it on meat heads from some other high school even after davidson SAW us leaving your cabin, shirts stuffed with boxers giggling uncontrollably….yes. THAT was a good prank.
