Sometimes, if I know that a friend, or more often than not, my brother is going to be coming home soon, I will contort my body into some kind of ridiculous position and just hold it there, so that when he walks in, he is completely taken aback by the absurdity of what I am doing. And I’m not talking about “Look, Jeff just pulled into the garage, let me get into position.” I’m talking about, “Jeff could be home in thirty seconds, or he could be home in 2 hours, regardless, I’m holding this damn position.” Because you know what? For every extra second that I hold that position, it gets funnier and funnier. Imagine you are coming home from a long day at work, you walk into your apartment, flip on the light and there I am, with the goofiest looking smile you’ve ever seen, standing on one leg with the other tucked into my thigh. Both arms are rolled up into my sides, my torso is slightly tilted and I’ve blown air into my cheeks. I look like a giant monkey pretzel*, standing in the middle of your living room when the lights come on. Now, I explain to you that I’ve been standing in that awkward position for well over an hour because I thought it would be funny. Isn’t that funny! Oh. It’s creepy? I do this type of thing all the time and just laugh and laugh and laugh. (sigh)
What I’m getting at is that the more time that goes into a prank, the funnier it becomes. Like that one time we tied 500 hot dogs, each with its own string, to a friend’s tree. Or when we spent 6 hours toilet papering a house with 350 rolls of paper. The more invested you make yourself in a prank, the funnier. Remember that kids.
*My friend Clark made the giant monkey pretzel pose famous and, as far as I know, is its creator.
Am I the only one that thinks contorting your body is funny? ;)
