What Is Humility: Feeling Fully Without Performance

What is humility? It's the willingness to be exactly where you are without pretense. Not small—just honest about the journey.

From the Vault

I wrote this 8 years, 5 months ago. My thinking has probably evolved—some ideas deepened, others abandoned, a few transformed entirely. For how I'm currently thinking about things, check out what I'm working on today or Jesus Lightning.

Found this through Google? You just proved a point I've made often. This post is still working years later—no ad spend, no algorithm games. SEO is the highest-ROI investment any creator can make. I can help you build that.

Listen while you workout, cook, or commute.

The new definition of humility I’m using to guide my life is this: A willingness and desire to feel all of one’s emotions fully.

Why It Works

Because it’s really easy to pretend to not be angry. We can become addicted to our own sense of moral superiority. We can invent busy-ness strategies to avoid grief.

To truly live graciously, we must actually feel the entire spectrum within us at its deepest levels.

Emotions as Masks

Feeling angry is a mask. Going deeper shows the anger is protecting us from having to feel scared or vulnerable.

Feeling artificially joyous is a mask. It’s protecting us from having to acknowledge our true soul condition.

As we feel deeply the root emotions which all life scenarios we experience are pointing to, we begin to heal the injured patterns which have guided our life since childhood.

The Law of Attraction as Mirror

The Law of Attraction is a universal law. You don’t have to believe in it, just like you don’t have to believe in gravity. It is there, regardless of belief. It renders reality based on your soul condition.

It’s not about getting a new sports car, however. The Law of Attraction is God’s gift to help you know what needs to be healed within you. It’s about having a mirror which shows you who you really are.

The Three Steps

Whatever comes up in my life, I’m now always doing three things:

First, acknowledging that this reality event is a mirror response showing me my current soul condition in relation to some issue.

Second, asking God to help me move deeper, beyond my masking or capping emotions and into the true causal emotion this event is trying to trigger within me.

Third, feeling as deeply that causal emotion as I can, often to tears, until it has passed through me and I come out the other end.

Soul-Level Healing

This process allows me to progress quickly as a soul into vastly new and expanded levels of awareness. It gives me an accurate mirror to learn about my true self. It puts me in contact with non-physical intelligence that matches the purity of my soul rather than my emotional injuries.

It softens me and yet in the comfort of that softness, I find great strength.

It does not treat effects using techniques which only provide temporary results. It is addressing everything at the soul level and heals misalignments for good.

The world is a mirror showing me my own soul condition. I can ignore that mirror and lock myself in a closet trying to pray or imagine something better, or I can heal my entire reality within myself by feeling it fully at every level of the emotional spectrum.

Humility is key.
