Creative block isn’t what you think it is.
We assume it means we’ve run out of ideas. That the well is dry. That we need more inspiration, more input, more something from outside ourselves.
But creative block is almost never about lacking ideas. It’s about avoiding the feelings that would unlock them.
Where Creativity Actually Lives
We are all artists in this life. Our greatest goal is to create from the space within our soul.
That can sound abstract if you haven’t made contact with your soul. But the way we make that contact is surprisingly concrete: acknowledge your desires and feelings in each moment. Allow them to play out on your nervous system.
When we allow our feelings to be expressed by sitting with them, feeling them fully, we tap into our true creative potential.
Creativity isn’t something you generate. It’s something you receive. And the receiver has to be clear.
The Emotional Bypass
Creative block happens when we’re trying to create while simultaneously avoiding something we don’t want to feel.
Maybe it’s fear of failure. Maybe it’s grief we haven’t processed. Maybe it’s anger we’re not allowing ourselves to acknowledge. Whatever it is, the avoidance takes energy. Energy that would otherwise fuel the work.
When we make space for our feelings, we make space for creativity. Feeling through our emotional backlog connects us more deeply to our soul’s desires.
I’ve noticed this in my own work. When I’m blocked, there’s usually something I’m not wanting to face. A hard conversation I’m avoiding. A truth I’m not ready to accept. An emotion I’ve been stuffing down.
The Lie of More Input
When we’re blocked, we often seek more input. More books. More courses. More inspiration from other creators.
But more input rarely solves creative block. In fact, it often makes it worse. It fills the space that needs to be empty. It distracts from the feelings that need to be felt.
The creative well refills from below, not from outside. It refills when we clear the emotional debris that’s blocking the spring.
What to Do When You’re Blocked
Stop trying to create. Start trying to feel.
Sit with whatever is there. Don’t judge it or try to fix it. Just feel it. Let your nervous system do what it needs to do.
When the feeling completes itself, the ideas will come. Not because you forced them, but because you cleared the channel.
This might take ten minutes. It might take days. The timeline doesn’t matter. What matters is the willingness to feel instead of force.

The Return of Flow
When we’re in expression of our deepest soul desires, that’s when life feels satisfying and meaningful. And that expression starts with feeling, not thinking.
The next time you’re blocked, don’t look for more ideas. Look for the feeling you’ve been avoiding. Feel it fully. Watch what opens up.
Creativity is your birthright. It’s not something you have to earn or manufacture. It’s something you have to allow. And allowing starts with feeling what’s actually there.
