Life Is a Mirror: Every Event Reflects Something Within You

What if life is a mirror? Every event you perceive is vibrationally matched to something within you. The question shifts from 'why me' to 'what is this reflecting?'

From the Vault

I wrote this 6 years, 7 months ago. My thinking has probably evolved—some ideas deepened, others abandoned, a few transformed entirely. For how I'm currently thinking about things, check out what I'm working on today or Jesus Lightning.

Found this through Google? You just proved a point I've made often. This post is still working years later—no ad spend, no algorithm games. SEO is the highest-ROI investment any creator can make. I can help you build that.

Listen while you workout, cook, or commute.

Taking full responsibility for the events in my life, even when it feels like they’re “happening TO me” versus “being organized and attracted BY me” continues to be an important and uncomfortable concept for me to ponder.

It’s uncomfortable because it removes the comfort of victimhood. There’s something strangely safe about believing life is happening to you. It means you don’t have to change. You just have to endure.

But the moment you consider that you might be participating in creating your experiences, everything shifts. Suddenly you have agency. And agency comes with responsibility.

The Vibration Handshake

It seems that every event I perceive in my life is vibrationally congruent to something within me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have perceived it or had such a salient experience with it.

There’s just too much data “out there” to perceive anything but that which is tuned to who I currently am.

Think about this. Billions of things are happening in the world right now. You’re only aware of a tiny fraction. And the fraction you’re aware of isn’t random. It’s selected by something inside you that resonates with those particular experiences.

Two people can walk through the same neighborhood and have completely different experiences. One notices threat everywhere. The other notices beauty. Neither is lying about what they see. They’re just tuned to different frequencies.

The Shift in Questioning

My primary interest in life then becomes something other than: why is this happening to me?

It moves into a deeper philosophical lens: why am I attracting this experience to myself?

What in me is this event mirroring?

This question changes everything. Instead of looking outward for someone to blame, you look inward for something to understand. Instead of trying to fix the world, you examine what in you is creating this particular reflection.

Life Is a Mirror

This isn’t about blame. It’s about information.

If life is a mirror, then the events that show up aren’t punishments or random chaos. They’re reflections. They’re showing you something about your current frequency.

And that changes everything. Because now you have something to work with.

The difficult relationship might be showing you an unhealed part of yourself. The recurring financial struggle might reflect beliefs about worthiness you didn’t know you held. The pattern of abandonment might be mirroring the ways you abandon yourself.

None of this is about self-blame. The mirror doesn’t judge. It simply reflects. Your job isn’t to punish yourself for what you see. It’s to understand it, work with it, and gradually shift your frequency.

Working With the Reflection

Once you see life as a mirror, you gain a tool that victim consciousness doesn’t provide. You can ask: what would I need to change in myself to see something different reflected back?

This doesn’t mean external action isn’t needed. Sometimes it is. But the internal shift often needs to come first. Otherwise you just recreate the same patterns in new circumstances.

I’ve watched myself do this. Leave a situation that felt problematic, only to find myself in the same dynamic elsewhere. The scenery changed. The mirror didn’t.

This is the lens the Bible is meant to be read through.
