11:11 meaning is something I can’t explain, but I honor it anyway. At some point, someone told me that if you see a clock reading 11:11, it’s good luck and you should make a wish.
This doesn’t make any logical sense. But ever since hearing it, I do exactly that. Every single time without fail.
And I fully expect my wishes will come true.
The Irrational Catalog
If I drive through three yellow lights in the same trip, I expect something good to happen.
If I’m driving under a bridge and a train is crossing over it at the same moment, I close my eyes, lift my feet off the floor, and make a wish.
Yes, while driving. Yes, it’s dangerous. But I wouldn’t dare not do it. That would be a good wish wasted.
Pennies on the ground. First stars of the evening. Holding your breath through tunnels. Birthday candles. Eyelashes on cheeks. The rituals accumulate over a lifetime until you can’t remember where they all came from.
Why We Do This
There’s no logic here. I know that. These rituals weren’t passed down through generations or taught in any church. They just appeared at some point and stuck.
Maybe we need ways to feel like we’re participating in our own luck. Like the universe is listening and we have a channel to reach it.
Maybe it’s about maintaining a relationship with mystery. A small rebellion against the idea that everything is random and we’re just along for the ride.
In a world that demands evidence for everything, these rituals are defiant. They say: I choose to believe anyway. I choose enchantment over explanation. I choose to participate in a story that logic says doesn’t exist.
The Wish Muscle
I’m constantly finding reasons to wish for things. Yellow lights. Digital clocks. Trains crossing bridges. First stars of the evening.
Perhaps the rituals don’t matter. Perhaps what matters is staying in the practice of wanting something. Of believing, even irrationally, that wanting it out loud might help it arrive.
The wish itself is the point. Not whether it comes true.
It keeps something alive in you. The part that still believes the world might be enchanted, if you just pay attention to the right signs. That part needs exercise. These rituals are its gym.
What 11:11 Really Means
Maybe the meaning of 11:11 isn’t mystical at all. Maybe it’s simply permission. Permission to pause and want something. Permission to imagine a different future. Permission to believe, for just a moment, that the universe is paying attention to you.
That kind of permission is worth far more than logic will ever be. So I keep looking for 11:11. And I keep making wishes when I find it.
This is the lens the Bible is meant to be read through.
