Floss is to dentistry what the bible is to Christianity, a metaphorical tool, al beit a purposeful one, designed to insight fear and raise attendance. As long as I fear losing my teeth, I’ll continue to (a) floss, and/or (b) show up to my dentist’s office. But, can’t I just show up every six months and have all of my dental iniquities forgiven? Is a strict, pain-staking, daily flossing regimen really that important?
