On Elevators

An elevator is a funny box to find yourself standing. People do not like to talk in elevators. Eyes will, almost always, glare upwards, nervously counting floor numbers up or down, until a destination is reached. Even reasonably social people seem to be put off by elevators. Two people can be completely engaged in a stimulating conversation and the second they step onto an elevator, both will quiet, often, stopping mid-sentence.
