About

My name is Jon Ray and starting January 1, 2008, I will be lifecasting (live broadcasting my life) to the world through a webcam I wear pinned to my shirt. As a social media and marketing consultant, I feel that transparency is the greatest goal any organization can achieve. By broadcasting my life, I hope to raise awareness about transparency and show organizations how social media can be a great asset in building stronger relationships with their customers. The dilemma is that I am now allowing my professional life and personal life to coexist. I am an open book for the world to read. This blog is a way for me to vent about the challenges of balancing one’s personal and professional life, but at the same time, have a little fun.
If you’re looking for all professional, all the time, then I suggest you head over to my professional blog, WhoIsJonRay.com. The purpose of this blog is to vent every little pro and con in my life. The namesake of this blog, Follow the Velcro is simple: As I’m scouring the planet with a webcam strapped to my person, I might occassionaly want to interview or talk with someone. Perhaps, I might want to give a video blog. The problem is that mounting the camera can be difficult in a random area lacking shelves. This is where the velcro comes in. I have a stock of velcro dots in my messenger bag and a felt coat on my camera. This allows me to plop down sticky velcro wherever I’m at and shoot at whichever angle I please. When I’m finished, I’ll brand the velcro dot with a business card and be on my way. So, if you see a velcro dot sporting my name, you’ll know I’m not far away. Follow the velcro and you’re sure to find me.
You can help me live a better life and perhaps, we can both benefit from it. Login to my broadcast by going to jonray.tv. If you have a suggestion, constructive criticism or better way for me to do something, then direct message me on Twitter with “d jonray tv (your message).” All direct Twitter messages will go directly to my phone and allow me to use your advice to better my day to day. As I’m meeting with marketing professionals, fitness trainers, sandwich artists, etc. feel free to direct message me with questions for any of the mentioned parties and I will try to get your questions to them.
As always, something like this only works if the community embraces it. That being said, I want you to tell me what would make my live broadcasts more interesting. I’m always open to constructive criticism and want to hear your opinion. So, rip into me…but, do it in a nice way. If all goes well, I’ll be on Leno by the end of 2008 and we’ll all have a good laugh about the time I tried to write an “About Me” page and failed miserably.
