Sleeping takes up too many square feet

Love Nook

If we didn’t have to sleep, do you think we would still have beds? Obviously, we would still need some sort of natural environment for procreating, but would it be a bed, or more like, when you’re a little tipsy, light a few candles, throw a bunch of blankets and pillows on the ground and make a little love nook in the laundry room or hallway closet? Think of all the additional functioning square footage you would have at home if you didn’t have a bed(s). What would we do with all of this space? And more important, if you had an extra 8-hours in each day, how would you spend it?

I’d like to think I’d spend this extra time learning to play a musical instrument or learning a new language, but more likely, I fear that I would just end up subscribing to twice as many magazines, newspapers and blogs reporting on the latest trends in pop culture. Given the extra square footage, though, I’m throwing down some cardboard and learning to break dance. Because, let’s face it, break dance fighting is awesome.

I love my sleep! Helps me enjoy my ONE life and the next day to its fullest glory!!!
    But, you, Live Your Life!!!
  • Do it. Toss down some cardboard and I will sell tickets to an epic breakdance battle between you and your challengers. You can take them out one by one and then we will go get some ice cream at Cold Stone and count the loot.
  • i've always wanted to preform some kind of act or heist that ended with me "counting the loot" ;)
  • And.... if You are going to learn an instument there is nothing cooler than a "keytar"
And... What is the advantage of switching your comments to Disqus?
  • @spikefire - I'm switching to Disqus because I want to utilize the new Facebook Connect feature for commenting that they have added to their plug-in. Unfortunately, I'm having some issues with my server, so I have been able to install the Facebook side of things yet. It also broadcasts all my comments to FriendFeed and allows for video commenting. We'll see if I keep it or not.
  • Your blog and your style of writing is inspirational to me. (by that I mean I'm jealous that you come up with all these interesting yet off the wall things to talk about and I don't)
About the only time I can come up with anything interesting to say it's when I'm really annoyed about something.
I would like to turn my bedlessroom in to a photography studio. The extra time... I would prolly spend it staring at the blinking text cursor on a blank page and wondering why I never have anything to say.
  • I'm glad to hear you find my rambling inspirational. It has taken a long time to get to such a point of open rambling, but it is very liberating whether anyone is listening or not. The more I write, the more ideas just come to me during the day. It helps to document those ideas when they come to you. Often times I don't and then I find myself saying, "Oh man, I had that great idea, now what was it?"

There's a movie you might like! It's pretty good, even if it has a bit too many nudes but it's still good. It's called Cashback.
My new year's resolution was to learn an instrument, and I was thinking about getting a Ukulele, but I got a little Angel Glockenspiel instead. I'm gonna be the coolest kid on the block with that thing!
  • too many nudes, sounds right up my alley...i will find this Cashback movie and watch it based on your recommendation...good luck with the Glockenspiel
  • break dance fighting is pretty fucking awesome.
  • it's probably the greatest form of combat
  • @ilai - oh, i could find a lot more things to do with my day

you already operate on a 24-hour status lmao what possible use do you have for a bed (besides the aforementioned *ahem* procreation)? More to the point, is it possible that you (who almost always seems to be awake and is always doing something [as noted per your constant status changes]) could actually cram any more activities into your day?
  • @skyrog - hilarious...but, so true...i heart activities
