Hiring a Maid

I am not good at keeping my house clean. I work a lot and play a lot and find that “chores” do not fit into my schedule. My time is better spent being creative, sharing my ideas, putting together IKEA furniture, etc. I just hired a maid to come once a week and clean up after me. Does this make me lazy, or just someone who values his time?

small suggestion: instead of hiring a maid, take advantage of your moocher friends who always seem broke and need a ride somewhere (or is that just me). that way, your hard earned (?) dollars can be spent on better things, like IKEA furniture.
  • You're a man who knows what you want out of life and what your priorities are. Revel in it! Too many people spend their time doing what they "should" rather than living the life they want.

If you need rationalization to feel good about it, though, here are some suggestions:
    - You're helping America move towards full employment.
    - You're combating entropy.
    - Your maid, who has full attention dedicated to cleaning, probably cleans more thoroughly and more quickly than you could, so globally, it's a better use of resources.
    - It makes the most sense for you to spend your life doing the things that only you can do, which may mean being creative, sharing your ideas, and putting together IKEA furniture.

Say... If I hired you to be creative, share, and assemble IKEA furniture for me, maybe I'd have time to go rent myself out as a house cleaner, thus completing the circle.
  • I would get a maid, but I'm too lazy.
  • I would totally get a maid once a week if I could afford it. Growing up in the Caribbean, having a maid was totally normal.

its gotta get done sometime- true laziness would be ignoring it altogether
  • "I would totally hire a maid if my house was cleaner.' David...while my place is clean I do feel like I have to clean it before having a miad come over for the first time...and that time just has not come.
  • @myself well...thats what my parents keep telling me "get a smaller place." i guess they see how busy i am and how messy they think my place is when they visit

And you know that she's not going to know where to put all your legos that are strewn about. And she'll prolly erase your etch-a-sketch picture you've been working on.
I would totally hire a maid if my house was cleaner.
  • I dont think it makes you lazy. busy people have busy lives where "chores" arent at the top of the list. I'd like to think that I'm a relatively tidy and organized person. however, my apartment sometimes doesnt stay so clean and tidy. its not that i dont want to, its that i dont have time to. for me, instead of a maid, i'll actually and eventually opt for a smaller apartment that easier to manage.
